what is graphic design?

so what is graphic design? is it a drawing? is it a game? is it fun? does it make you think?

this poster seems to answer this question in the most simple fast and approachable way possible. it clearly shows how simple graphic design is and the most common concept of more modern designs of LESS IS MORE!

there is a simple use of typography that helps to lead your eye around the page beginning at the top of the page in the white writing. the black background helps to take your eye down the page to the first answer where you then look to the boxes where you get answer number two. the direction in which the boxes lead you to the final answer in the right hand corner. the simplicity is even lead on throughout the text as it is a sans serif font which is less for the eye to read , not as important but straight to the point.

i think more than answering the question of what is graphic design, this ad tells us what its not and what it shouldn't be mistakened for.

i dont really feel like any type of target market is intended, but more so a creative type of person. its a straight to the point simple design that grabs your attention with its effective hierarchy which starts with the large black section in the top left hand corner and the way in which it then leads your eye around the page.

while searching for images non the net i was drawn into this one for its simplicity. im definitely a fan for the less is more concept and lover of modern design.

see you sooon

hear me talk.

A friend and i decided that we would go for a drive to taree. I just happened to look to my left only to see this poster for Nova 96.9 and it seriously made me laugh!

I mean what other way to grab peoples attention to listen to a radio station than say "Tune in to hear us talk..." with a picture of the hosts underneath.

The style of this design draws people in with the effective slogan at the top of the poster shouting out INTERACTIVE ADVERTISEMENT! Without a definite target market in mind i think this ad is aimed at everyone both drivers and passengers. The humour behind this also draws people in leaving them thinking how am i going to be able to hear them talk and BAM you see the tune into 96.9. If you look at it the first thing that grabs your attention is the image, which your eye is then led to the massive slogan at the top. Your eye then reads from left to right as you normally would giving you the information you need to get all interactive with the ad.

The typography used in this piece seems to be stuck to a grid pattern placed along lines giving a kind of balance to the piece. This pattern is repeated down through to the images below. The bold presence of the first line in the piece grabs your attention effectively and if you can tell the red outline around the text leads you to the NOVA image on the right so at least you know what your listening to. Its very modern/decorative and appears to be a sans serif font. The obvious use of italics leads your eye down through the piece as well as the repetition of white text.

I love this ad. It grabbed my attention leaving me wondering how the hell could this be an interactive ad? how could i hear them talk? then derrr it hit me that it was through the radio station HA and coincidently i was already tuned into them. I liked that it gave people a chance to be apart of the ad by making them think how they could hear them talk. i also like that the fact that not only does the piece make you laugh but so do merrick, rosso and kate richie. pretty cool huh :)

later guys
